Welcome to this week’s edition of Platform Five – our regular look at the tools and platforms that are starting to make an impact on the social media eco-system.

This week’s post is headlined by the first real-time social guide for TV and a free tool that enables you to create your own mobile apps (no kidding!) for all the major mobile platforms.

Let’s get down to business…

  1. SocialGuide.com delivers the first real-time social guide for TV – Is this the future of interactive media? Quite possibly. SocialGuide mashes up TV listing with real-time viewer comments and data allowing you to see which shows are trending in y0ur local area based on participation. The mobile apps are being launched soon too. This could be HUGE!
  2. BoxyTunes combines DropBox with your music catalogue – Has there been a more popular tool than DropBox in 2011? Probably not. BoxyTunes is the latest to take advantage of the simple way you can store files within the cloud by delivering a music player that works on your iPhone / iPad. Neat huh? Download it here.
  3. Create your own mobile app for free with AppMakr.com – This could be the best tool we’ve ever profiled on Platform Five. AppMakr.com enables anyone to build rich content based apps at the click of a button…and its free! Block out some time in your diary, this could be the most addictive (and useful) thing you’ll ever use. Check out the demo video here.
  4. Open-source Twitter equivalent set to explode? Identi.ca is a micro-blogging service that essentially enables you to build your own private Twitter-esque networks. Read more about it here.
  5. Google gets into the financial services game with Google advisor – Google has jumped on the financial services aggregator bandwagon here which is worth a peek (and a sign of things to come). Surprised? Not really.

That brings us to the end of this week’s round-up.

We’ll be back with more useful and innovative tools and platforms next week, but in the meantime, keep in touch via Twitter and Facebook.
