Welcome to this week’s edition of Platform Five – our weekly look at the online tools and platforms that PR and social media agencies might want to keep an eye on.

This week’s edition is headlined by a clever ‘news sharing’ tool from the team at The Next Web and TwitterCounter, a new video content service for business, some clever location-based apps and more.

Without further ado…let’s do it…

  1. Start spreading the news with Spread.us – Providing this application takes off, and I think it will, the way we share news on Twitter and Facebook  might be about to change forever. Spread.us works by setting up simple filters to promote the news you care about.  It allows you to share things as soon as they are published, making you amongst the first people to share that link. Find out more at Spread.us/about
  2. Moviecom.TV serves up ‘YouTube for business’ – This service allows users to centralize and manage all their online content, videos, blogs and social media posts on their own branded Moviecom.tv account and enables monetizing through a bespoke advertising module. More on this interesting service at: Moviecom.tv/about
  3. SmartGiving launches on SwipeGood.com – We are increasingly impressed by the clever ways social good is being facilitated by social media and this example is no exception. This works by rounding up your credit card purchases to the nearest dollar and donating that amount to charities based on your spending habits. Very clever! Check out the FAQs for more.
  4. Agora app brings common-interest introductions to foursquare – This allows users to connect with people every time they check in with foursquare based on the way they use Twitter. Sounds like a good ‘un.
  5. Publish and find location-based stories with broadcastr.com – According to the review on OneForty.com, broadcaster is ’a Social Media platform for location-based stories. It enables the recording, indexing, listening, and sharing of audio content’. I tested it by subject and stumbled across some interesting content that I hadn’t previously been aware of. This tool might come in handy for professional news and opinion gathering by subject and location too.
